Radiohead has announced that they’ve got a new album called “In Rainbows” coming out in 10 days. And they’re not using a record label. This is a big deal. Really big deal. No band of this size has ever tried to cut out the middle man, so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes. I’m rooting for them, that’s for sure.
Even bigger deal: the only place you can download the album (legally) is their site, And YOU GET TO DECIDE how much you pay. Craziness! What a bold move, trusting your fans. I pre-ordered it a few minutes ago (it’ll be available for download on the 10th) and paid £7 which works out to about $14. I look at this way: an album on iTunes costs $10. So I could have just done £5 without feeling guilty. BUT – I love that they’re doing this and want it to work so I figure the extra 4 bucks will help offset the download someone else does for free. Right?
I’ll be curious to see what the average price people pay is.

I paid six pounds. Twelve pounds … that’s excessive.
